On-Campus
Interview Participation Procedures:
Employers
establish candidate criteria and indicate whether it is preferred (indicating there
may be flexibility in the candidates an employer is willing to
consider) or required
(meaning only persons with those qualifications can apply). These
preferences are noted on the interview schedule above.
If you
meet the stated criteria, and would like to apply for an on-campus
interview, you will need to do the following:
- Have a sample resume
and cover letter reviewed by Law Career Services.
- Gather the requested
materials for EACH employer you wish to apply to, and submit those
materials along with an On-Campus Interview Cover Sheet to the Law
Career Services Office by
Monday, January 14th, 2008 at 3:00 p.m.
- Participate in a mock
interview with Law Career Services prior to any scheduled on
campus interview.

Holiday
Break Career Tips:
If
you are looking for a permanent or summer position, do not overlook
the holiday break as an opportunity to make contacts in the region
where you will be spending the holidays.
§
Send
a letter or email (with resume) to firms and agencies telling them
when you will be in town and available to meet with them. This is
more likely to get a response because you’ve made it easy and they
will not have to pay for travel expenses, etc.
§
For
some employers, you can also make “cold calls” to drop off a resume
and at least make a good impression on the receptionist. A
smaller firm or a government agency might even invite you in to meet
someone.
§
Check
out local bar associations as well. There may be a meeting, a CLE
event or a holiday gathering which they will let you attend if you
call.
§
Finally,
you can learn a lot by meeting with alumni or other lawyers in the
area even if they do not have job openings. Utilize the
law alumni network to connect with law alumni in your practice area
and geographic region. http://www.utlaw.edu/alumni/referral/index.asp

IL Opportunities with Baker
& Daniels:
Cummins
Inc. / Baker & Daniels LLP Joint Summer Associate Program:
Cummins
Inc., a Fortune 500, global manufacturing company headquartered in
Columbus, Indiana, and the law firm of Baker & Daniels, one of
Cummins' significant providers of outside legal services, are
offering a unique summer associate program to enhance Cummins' and
Baker & Daniels' joint commitment to diversity. The summer
associate's experience will include all aspects of Baker &
Daniels' regular summer associate program with the added dimension
of working primarily on Cummins' matters. This aspect of the
program will provide the summer associate the opportunity to work
closely with Cummins' representatives and with the B&D Client
Service Team that represents Cummins. Assignments will provide
the law student with an opportunity to perform research, draft
documents / pleadings, and collaborate on legal strategy, as well as
participate in meetings with Cummins' representatives.
The joint
program is intended to attract a top diverse candidate to spend the
summer getting to know Cummins' business and the work Baker &
Daniels performs for Cummins and for other clients. The
opportunity for employment after law school is limited to Baker
& Daniels, as Cummins does not employ attorneys directly after
graduation from law school. If you would like to apply for
this opportunity, please submit a cover letter expressing your
position of interest, along with your resume, including law school
grades if available, electronically to: alisha.couch@bakerd.com.
Lilly
/ Baker & Daniels LLP Joint Summer Associate
Program:
Eli Lilly
and Company, a Fortune 500, pharmaceutical company headquartered in
Indianapolis, Indiana, and the law firm of Baker & Daniels, one
of Lilly's significant providers of outside legal counsel, are
offering a unique summer associate program to enhance Lilly's and
Baker & Daniels' joint commitment to broadening the
participation of minority attorneys in the legal representation of
Lilly. The program will provide the opportunity for the summer
associate to work at Lilly and at Baker & Daniels on a schedule
that is mutually acceptable to both, in an effort to immerse the
student in the day-to-day legal work that Lilly's internal and
outside counsel perform. The key
mission of the program is to attract a top diverse candidate to
spend their summer getting to know Lilly's business and the work
Baker & Daniels performs for Lilly and other clients.
While the program will provide the summer associate with a diverse
perspective of legal careers, the opportunity for employment after
law school is limited to Baker & Daniels, as Lilly does not
employ attorneys who have not practiced in a law firm after
graduation. If you would like to apply for this opportunity,
please submit a cover letter expressing your position of interest,
along with your resume, including law school grades if available,
electronically to: alisha.couch@bakerd.com.
