Public Service Externship Program Informational Meeting Thursday:

Thursday, Feb. 7

Noon; SLK Lounge

Please attend this informational session if you’re thinking of participating in the Public Service Externship program this summer or fall.

The Public Service Externship includes a mandatory classroom component and field placement component in which students work in a public service legal settings.  A Public Service Externship Notebook, available in Room 2008 contains descriptions of all field placements in northwest Ohio and southeast Michigan

Students receive credit for the course.  While compensation is not allowed, reimbursement for expenses is permitted.  The course is graded on a pass-no-credit basis. Students can enroll for a maximum of four (4) credit hours in the fall and spring terms. In the summer the maximum is six (6) credit hours.  For every credit hour elected, students must complete 56 hours of work over the entire term.

Students interested in enrolling in the Public Service Externship course must submit an application along with a resume and unofficial transcript.   Applications are available on the College of Law web site ("Legal Clinics") and from Sharon Dickerson in Room 2008.  Prior to submitting an application students should meet with Professor Fink to discuss possible placements. You may set up an appointment by emailing her at maara.fink@utoledo.edu. Enrollment is by approval of the instructor only.

10th Annual Reinberger Honors Program in Prosecution:  Deadline to Apply is Thursday, Feb. 7

The College of Law is pleased to announce the availability of 10 Reinberger Honors Program in Prosecution fellowships in the amount of at least $4,000 for the summer of 2008. The Program is designed to attract highly qualified law students to careers in prosecution and to enhance prosecution placement opportunities. Law students who have completed the course in Evidence by the beginning of the summer 2008 semester and who meet the requirements of the placement jurisdiction’s law student practice rule (e.g., Ohio requires completion of 2/3 of the credits required for graduation; Michigan requires completion of the first year of law school) are eligible to participate.

To apply, students should submit to Professor Robin Kennedy by email at robin.kennedy@utoledo.edu, or fax at 419-530-4447, or at Law Center Room 2008E, the following:

1)       a cover letter stating the student’s interest in the program, the prosecutor office or locale (county, state, or city) to which he or she wishes assignment, and a statement of his or her criminal record (a criminal record does not necessarily disqualify a student from participation);

2)       an unofficial law school transcript; and

3)       a current resume.

For more information, contact Professor Kennedy.
